HISTORY
Avery was founded in 1935 by R Stanton Avery the inventor- and original patent holder – of the self-adhesive label. Today the Avery Dennison Corporation is a global enterprise with a turnover of $3.8 billion and over 17,400 employees covering 200 manufacturing and sales facilities, which produce and sell Avery Dennison products in 89 countries around the world.

The Avery Dennison UK business was started in 1963 and created the Avery brand which today is the brand leader in the business machine self-adhesive label market. Avery employs a highly efficient system of manufacturing, accredited with BS 5750, which goes hand in hand with the company’s commitment to provide next day service to the customer.

The growth in the use of the laser printer, as well as more recently the inkjet printer, has accelerated the growth of the Avery brand of products. The company recognised that most laser printer users were unhappy with the availability of popular software to print labels neatly, efficiently and accurately. Avery tackled this problem by developing specific label printing software Avery LabelPro®, and more recently Avery DesignProT 2000.

The company has also formed strategic alliances with some of the world’s largest software houses to ensure Avery Label templates are present in the best known packages including, Microsoft®, Corel, Lotus, and Claris. In addition, Avery developed labels and card products dedicated to different printer technology to ensure the best quality output, and work closely with OEM’s such as Canon and Hewlett Packard to ensure no printer jams.

More recently, Avery has addressed the needs of the inkjet printer – in particular the colour inkjet user – with the launch of a new inkjet range of printable supplies. This new range both compliments and expands the company’s extensive label portfolio maintaining a market leading position in the provision of speciality labels.

Over recent years Avery has introduced a range of industry leading innovations such as the Avery Consumer Centre, a free phone advice line, the first of its kind in the office products industry. In addition a host of new products have been developed across its Office Label, Office Accessories and Filing and Presentation businesses.

These include a range of premium products including Photo Quality Colour Laser Labels, the highly innovative Creative Printer Supplies Range targeting the domestic market, the new Desk Top Range of desk accessories and a number of unique filing products.
